Eyecare Professionals:

Optician

An Optician is a licensed professional trained to help you see better - whether you're near or far-sighted, or have low vision due to more complex eye health issues. A Licensed Optician interprets your vision prescription into the perfect lenses for your eyes. An Optician is highly skilled; working to exacting standards and precision because creating the perfect lens requires attention to extremely fine detail. Using the latest technology, Opticians help people see better; thereby, enhancing their lives. Licensed Opticians also ensure your lenses have been created accurately before giving them to you. In fact, they ensure that the lenses and frames meet national and international standards of precision. They further ensure the fit of your glasses, contact lenses or special needs vision devices.

Ophthalmologist

An Ophthalmologist is sometimes called an "eye M.D." because he or she is a medical doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. "Eye M.D's are specially trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to complex and delicate eye surgery. Many eye M.D.'s are also involved in scientific research into the causes and cures for eye diseases and vision problems."

The figures speak for themselves:

One preschooler out of six has a vision problem severe enough to affect their learning ability. By grade six, one in four students have a vision problem severe enough to affect their learning ability.

On average, 60% of children identified as having learning disabilities also have uncorrected vision disorders.

Only 14% of children under six receive professional eyecare and 50% of children will not see an optometrist by the time that they graduate from high school.

Opticianry in Canada is regulated and governed by standards to protect your vision and ensure care of the highest standard.

I heard of Robertson Optical from a friend. I had my eyes checked by an optometrist at the same time that I ordered my glasses. As it worked out, I needed progressive lenses and was a little hesitant. With a good description of what to expect, I went home with a good feeling. A week later I picked up my new glasses and had no problem what so ever adjusting to my first progressive lenses. I can only recommend the staff at Robertson Optical.
